Marsiana
CHAPTER 11
Marsiana was invited to the birthday party. This happened a week after the search of the treasure. This unexpected news was said to the girl by Mrs. Carter whom has not changed and was still the young woman.
‘Birthday?’ Marsiana surprised and looked at bags of flower seeds, which she neatly put in front of her on the table. ‘Yes, Marsiana,’ Mrs. Carter nodded. ‘It’s a very funny children's party. Have you ever been earlier at the birthday party?’ she asked, and paused, realizing that she had said something wrong. Marsiana could not be on someone's birthday at all. This was her first invitation. Mrs. Carter was worried so much as if it was she but not Marsiana invited to the children's party. ‘And to whom I was invited?’ Marsiana asked. ‘To one good little girl,’ Mrs. Carter said. ‘We were friends at school with her grandmother. I met her at the store, so she invited. You're not happy? You need not go if you do not want.’ Marsiana shook her head. ‘Why I’m not happy. I’m happy,’ she said. ‘What other children will be there?’ ‘You want to know if among the invited guests is your friend Billy.’ Mrs. Carter was shrewd and proud of it. ‘He's the only one I know of children,’ Marsiana explained. ‘Knowing that he, too, will be at the party, I will be calmer.’ ‘He invited. Do not worry,’ Mrs. Carter reassured Marsiana. ‘I do not worry, grandmother, Mrs. Carter Aunt Audrey,’ Marsiana said slowly. Such a long treatment just testified that Marsiana slightly worried. Mrs. Carter was well aware of it. ‘You need to choose a gift for Christie,’ she said. ‘I know,’ Marsiana’s excitement has subsided and she was calm again. ‘If you want, I'll help you with the choice of a gift,’ Mrs. Carter offered to her. ‘The truth is I do not know what now is suitable as a present for the little girls. Probably as in former times it’s a doll or some game.’ ‘Oh, yes!’ Marsiana quickened. ‘Thank you for a good idea. I'll give her a computer game!’ she exclaimed. ‘I mean normal but not a computer game,’ Mrs. Carter said. ‘But if you agree, I do not mind.’ Marsiana pointedly smiled. ‘It will be a special game. None of children have got such a game and never will.’ ‘I hope you know what you do,’ Mrs. Carter said satisfied that Marsiana agreed to go to the birthday party. Sometimes it was just painful to her to watch as a girl sitting among the flowers and talking only to the bugs, butterflies and bees. As if on the Earth didn’t exist the other people. However, sometimes came Billy, but Mrs. Carter would prefer if Marsiana got a girlfriend of her age. In her view Christie best of all fit this role. She was educated, intelligent and polite girl. But maybe she was wrong. Time will tell. ‘You can call Billy and go together with him. So you won’t feel there along,’ Mrs. Carter suggested wondered how she had not come up with this great idea before. Marsiana called Billy, and they agreed to go together to Christie’s birthday party. * * * Christie liked the unusual girl at first glance, and she almost all evening spent with Marsiana. She took her by the arm, met with all the children invited to her birthday party. Marsiana was making friends with all, friendly was smiling, and when everybody around got acquainted and started to disassemble the gifts, the turn came at last to the present of Marsiana. ‘What is it? Game?’ Christie asked looking at Marsiana’s present. ‘Yes,’ Marsiana answered affirmatively. ‘Game. I just made some little changes. So it looks more interesting and realistic.’ ‘I love computer games,’ Christie answered politely, not wanting to offend Marsiana. In fact, Christie had little interest in computer games. ‘I guess you know about programming?’ she asked. ‘Just a little,’ Marsiana was modest as never before. ‘Do you want to play my game, right now’ she offered suddenly. Christy wanted to refuse; it was the time to taste the cake, but by looking at bright eyes of Marsiana she just could not refuse her. ‘With pleasure. Can other children also play a game?’ she asked. ‘Of course. So even be more interesting,’ Marsiana agreed. Christie together with Marsiana and several other invited children went into the room of Christie. Among them was Billy. He already knew that Marsiana prepared something unusual and unexpected. Remembering how they were looking for the treasure, he was sure that Marsiana could not present the ordinary game from the store. ‘What’s the game?’ Christie asked, switching on the computer. ‘About my friend,’ Marsiana answered. ‘He's a hero, fighting with bad people on the island …with the terrorists. Billy immediately perked up. He loved shooters. Christie on the contrary sadly sighed. If she occasionally plays the computer games, she prefers the games for girls. When all was ready Christie sat down at the computer. Children crowded behind her. ‘This is Jack. My friend,’ Marsiana said, when on the monitor appeared an armed man. He surveyed the overgrown with the palm trees island. Suddenly, from somewhere came the enemy, and the battle began. Christie uncertainly shot for Jack and the children gradually drawn into the game gave her different advice. ‘Bullets. He ran out of bullets!’ someone shouted of the children. ‘Well, so give to Jack the reloaded cartridge. It’s lying next to him,’ Marsiana said calmly. ‘How “give him”?’ Christie surprised. ‘Simply,’ Marsiana put her hand to the monitor, and all the children literally gasped in amazement. Hand of Marsiana disappeared in the monitor, and all saw how she took a cartridge next to the killed terrorist and handed it to Jack. The guy took the cartridge and smiled gratefully to Marsiana. Marsiana smiled and took her hand off. ‘How did you do that?’ Christie asked in shock. ‘Ordinary,’ Marsiana shrugged. ‘I just took and gave it to Jack. I told that I’ve changed the game a bit.’ ‘But it’s impossible!’ said loudly one of the children. ‘This can not be true. The hand can not enter into the monitor. This is a trick. Do it again!’ ‘Okay,’ Marsiana looked at the monitor. ‘Jack could you lend me your gun for a couple of minutes?’ she asked. ‘Nobody except you. Take it, please.’ The astonished children saw that hand of Marsiana now reappeared with a gun in the game and cleverly shot several terrorists. None of the children knew how she does it but the game was beginning to like them more and more. The children began to ask Marsiana allowed them to play the game. Marsiana none refused, and thus the children at a time or all at once almost got into the game and fired from different weapons. One boy even put his head into the monitor. When he pulled it back his eyes were wide opened with astonishment. ‘There’s an island! The real island!’ he exclaimed. Children were making noise, screaming. Everyone wanted to see the island, and who knows what could have happen if had not happened a little trouble. Close to Christi grenade exploded and she were wounded by shrapnel. Christy screamed in terror, and withdrew her hand. Above the elbow, her hand was bloody. The room was in a panic. Children with frightened cries, turning everything in its path, fled out from the room. With Marsiana left only Billy. He wanted to watch all to the end. He was sure that nothing bad will happen and all ended well. Billy was right. ‘Blood,’ Christie whispered in fear, pale and weakening. ‘Marsiana am I going to die?’ she asked in a trembling voice. ‘No, you will not die,’ Marsiana put her hand on the wound of Christie. The wound somehow disappeared without a trace. Even the drops of blood which had time to fall to the floor, too, seemed to have evaporated. ‘That's it!’ Marsiana said with a satisfied tone, taking her hand off. ‘Look, Christie. Everything is fine. No a trace is visible.’ ‘How did you do that?’ Christie exclaimed in disbelief. ‘I do not know. I just did,’ Marsiana said. ‘If you do not like the game, I'll take it back.’ ‘No, no. Don’t say so. I adore this game!’ Christy grabbed her hand. “It’s a great game. Thank you. I'll leave it at home. I do not know when I dare to play it again,’ on Christie’s lips appeared the smile Christi. Marsiana smiled too. Billy was looking at what was happening with his eyes wide open. In his head whirled different thoughts, but highlight any one the most important he could not. He just once again confirmed in his opinion that Marsiana was the unusual girl. Not only the unusual, but also she was beautiful. Billy looked at Marsiana with adoring eyes. After talking a little more, the children left the room. The party lasted for some more time, and then all went home satisfied. Marsiana liked Christie’s birthday, and she thought if someone else invites her again, she will agree to go to the party. Marsiana went to bed with these thoughts.
