Marsiana 2-13
CHAPTER 13
At the secret government meeting was attended all the heads of law enforcement agencies. It was not only the President. Somebody of them knew why they gathered, some only guessed. But all without exception, curiously looked at the young girl, who was present at the meeting. It was Marsiana. She was making a kind of report.
‘I do not want to scare you prematurely,’ she said calmly. ‘But the situation is quite serious. I would say is critical. During my last encounter with the kregls… ‘How? How you call it?’ asked the Defense Minister John Hefner. ‘Kregl, Sir,’ Marsiana repeated. ‘Are you surprised this name? Me, by the way too. In fact we do not know what they are called in fact, and where they came to Earth. So they were called by my dad, Maxim.’ Defense Minister exchanged glances with Hefner who sat next to him CIA director Paul Newman. ‘If you allow young lady one more question,’ he said politely. Marsiana nodded. ‘Thank you,’ Hefner puffed out his cheeks. ‘Let me ask you, where's your dad Maxim, as you call him, and how he knew about these creatures?’ Marsiana knew very well what he was getting. ‘About this you should talk with the director of the FBI. He as I think fully owns the information of interest to you,’ Marsiana said. Hefner bowed his head. He was pleased with the Marsiana’s answer though the whole situation made him damn annoying. He, the fighting general sits and listens to babble some unfamiliar young girl about some kregls. Are they all here got crazy? He silently looked around, but it seemed that no one referred to the words of the girl lightly. “Maybe I do not know something,” he thought. “Otherwise the Secretary of State of the White House wouldn’t collect us here at three at deep night or in the morning. Probably something really extraordinary happened,” Hefner bowed his head to his assistant. ‘Sam, are you listening?’ he whispered. ‘Yes, sir. I’m listening,’ Colonel Roland responded at once. ‘Listen carefully. Then tell me if I miss something,’ Minister of Defense said. ‘How did you say, sir,’ Roland answered. Marsiana looked around at all those were present. For a moment, her beautiful face lit up with the smile. ‘Do not worry. All is not lost,’ she said. ‘There are not too much of them. One I killed. There are two more left.’ Hefner wanted to ask why she did not kill those two, that they were not to be held there early in the morning, but changed his mind. Let someone else ask, because it will be look as he need more than others. Marsiana if guessed his thoughts. ‘I just did not have the strength to cope with all. On Oberon I have enough energy to complete the battle,’ she explained. Hefner blushed and snorted. He felt uncomfortable in front of the girl. ‘Yes, I know ... I have nothing. It just ... thought,’ he said. The men who were responsible for the safety and well-being of the most powerful country in the world look at him with a puzzled. They were not clear understood why Hefner talks to himself. It seems no one asked him about anything. ‘What do you suggest?’ he Secretary of State asked glancing at his watch. It was time to make a report to the President. ‘We have to send an expedition there, and destroy their base in the bud,’ Marsiana said calmly. ‘Where? On Oberon?’ asked Hefner. ‘Yes. On Oberon.’ Hefner made some rude sound. ‘I do not know how you gentlemen, but I've had enough of this nonsense. What please tell me, we will fly to Uranus, when we not even been on Mars?’ he asked, rising from his seat, with the clear intention to leave the meeting. ‘John sit down, please,’ the steel notes in the voice of Secretary of State made what it had to do. Hefner slumped in his chair, placed in front of him his clenched fists. Secretary of State looked at NASA's director. ‘Your turn, Simon. What do you say?’ NASA Director looked pale and somehow sleepy. ‘Its adventure,’ clearing his throat, he said. ‘Of course, theoretically, our experimental model of the ship can reach all the planets of the Solar system. But Hefner right, we even hadn’t been on Mars yet but here we are talking of Uranus and Oberon. It’s clear suicide I have to say.’ ‘I say the same,’ Hefner said. ‘Whether it will be easier to meet them here on Earth and destroy one by one or all together?’ ‘You are right. What do you say, Marsiana?’ the State Secretary looked at the standing thin girl. Suddenly the director of the FBI came to rescue Marsiana. ‘We can’t do that, sir. These creatures have the ability to suddenly appear anywhere. They can simply save their strength in some secluded corner of a sparsely populated state, and then start a full-scale invasion. We do not have time even to recover as find ourselves under their authority. Marsiana right we need pre-emptive strike. Of course, it is better if it can be done here on Earth. But the fly to the Uranus,’ he shook his head. ‘It’s very big risk.’ Hefner did not give up. ‘Nonsense,’ he said. ‘Well, let's say, you will arrive at Oberon if you at all get there. You’ll kill two or three aliens. And what prevents the rest of them quickly invades the Earth and takes us as prisoners?’ Hefner's face was flushed, and he looked like an angry bull. “Irishman. What you want from him,” Newman thought, and said aloud. ‘If they could do it, they would do that long time ago. So, it is mean that something interferes with it or their planet is too far away from the Earth. Maybe even in a neighboring galaxy.’ ‘Yeah, super hero will fly in the cloak, and save us,’ Hefner muttered under his nose. His words were heard by all, but nobody shown it. The Secretary of State appealed to the Marsiana. ‘We're aware of the seriousness of the situation, and fully trust you. But Simon rights, our spaceships fly well only just in our fantastic films. The problem is in the engines. We have advanced development ... Yes, Simon, have we?’ the Secretary of State looked at NASA's director. Simon nodded. ‘We're experiencing it only during the flight to the Moon. The engine showed good results, but Uranus ...’ Simon spread his hands. ‘If you do not mind, I'll take care of the engine,’ Marsiana said. ‘I will ensure the delivery of the expedition to Oberon.’ All looked at her with surprise. Hefner snorted. ‘So maybe you better fly there alone. You’ll kill all the aliens and fly back,’ he said sarcastically. Secretary of State looked pointedly at him. Hefner as if he were about to give up rose both his hands. ‘Okay, I keep quiet,’ he said dully. ‘But seriously, can not imagine how it can be achieved, moreover, in such a short time.’ ‘Fly with the new engine will not take more than a week,’ Simon said. ‘The most important thing is to pick up the crew mentally and psychologically ready for such an expedition. After all ...’ he hesitated. ‘They may not go back,’ Secretary of State finished for him. ‘Chances to return back are the minimum,’ Simon agreed. ‘We will choose volunteers,’ Secretary of State decided. ‘I think in America enough guys ready to do everything to protect their homeland,’ he said. The men nodded approvingly. ‘I'll cast the crew,’ director of the FBI said. ‘I think that our colleagues from the CIA to help me in this noble cause.’ ‘Of course, Steve. Let our departments will begin to prepare the battle group just today.’ ‘Excellent,’ Simon slapped his hand on the table. ‘Astronauts who ready for the flight to Oberon we have got. We are preparing the ship and astronauts. You are Special Forces group. The operation will be called Oberon –Mission 1.’ The Secretary of State has approved his proposal. ‘Good name, Simon. I think the President will also be satisfied. ‘Name is not the main thing but it also has a certain importance for the overall success of the business,’ Simon said satisfied with the praise of the Secretary of State. ‘I would like to add a few words,’ Marsiana said. ‘Say. We listen,’ the Secretary of State allowed. ‘On Oberon is their centre from which they transfer the aliens from one star system to another. Now there are not too many of them, just a few. I could go there alone, but I cannot manage with them without the support of people.’ she looked at the director of the FBI. ‘I encountered only with one of them on Oberon, and he was able to throw me back into the lab. FBI director will not let me to lie.’ ‘She's telling the truth,’ Newman nodded. ‘It is primarily your world,’ Marsiana continued to speak. ‘And you have to fight for it. I can only help or not help. You understand?’ It is understood all. Even Hefner calmed down and began in his mind to figure out what weapons are most useful for his guys on Oberon. ‘Okay, gentlemen. Time is short. I'm to the President. The meeting is over. All get to job!’ Secretary of State nodded goodbye to everyone and left the office. The others left the meeting room after him. Hefner took the elbow of Marsiana. ‘You, if anything wrong, excuses me, miss. I am an old soldier, and didn’t use to listen to the advice of some girl. Marsiana smiled. ‘I'm not offended. Friends?’ she with a smile held out her hand to Hefner. Hefner from surprise hesitated, and then gently shook the small palm. ‘Great. What do you have in the arsenal?’ Marsiana asked with a businesslike tone. Hearing the question on the topic familiar to him the Minister of Defense immediately perked up. ‘Oh!’ he exclaimed. ‘We have a lot of good things there. Some examples of high-tech modern weapons can seriously tickle even the alien,’ in his voice sounded boasting and Marsiana for a moment imagines how he looked in his childhood, when boasted with a new water pistol in front of his friends. ‘If you do not mind, I'd like to take a look,’ she asked humbly. ‘With pleasure!’ Marsiana together with Hefner left the meeting room at the Pentagon.
