Marsiana 2-4
CHAPTER 4
In the morning Marsiana woke up in a good mood and decided to make everybody the gifts. Even better fulfill the wishes of her friends. The first who came to her were Billy and Christie. Both wanted to talk about their wonderful dream. Marsiana calmly listened to them, and then said:
‘Today, in the eve of the new school year, as you remember, I also go to school, I decided to fulfill all your wishes.’ ‘All!’ Billy exclaimed nervously danced in the place. Marsiana smiled. ‘All! Billy, what do you want?’ ‘I? What I want? I want a lot of new tablets, IPhones and laptops,’ Billy blurted. Christie startled gasp and covered her mouth with her palm. She could not believe her eyes. Billy disappeared under the pile of tablets, laptops and IPhones. She could see only top of his head which was sticking out of the pile, then appeared his satisfied face. ‘Awesome!’ he smiled. Billy at that moment was really happy. ‘That’s all?’ Marsiana asked him. Billy shook his head, and the IPhones fell from his shoulders to the ground. ‘What else?’ ‘I think,’ Billy said not believing his luck.’ ‘Christie, now you... Fashion clothes, cosmetics, maybe you want too an expensive IPhone?’ Christie was pale and tense. ‘You can really fulfill any wish?’ she asked, getting paler. She even got pale her palms. ‘Any. Make your wish.’ ‘My Mom last year got into the car accident. Now she in a wheelchair ...’ Christie did not finish and nearly fell down. Her mother was healthy and happy and was standing next to her. Christie, as if afraid that she will disappear, ran to her and started hugging her. ‘Mom, mom,’ she was crying. The woman silently embraced Christie and also was crying. Then she disappeared. Christie with pain and bitterness looked at the Marsiana. ‘What, that’s all!’ she exclaimed. ‘My mom is again disabled?’ ‘No, why do you think so. She returned to her room. She just needs time to recover from her sudden recovery. I can imagine in what shock will be her doctor when he finds out about this. Perhaps immediately sit down to write the thesis of his method of treatment.’ Christie tearfully ran to the Marsiana, and started hugging her. ‘You’re so good,’ she whispered. ‘You are so kind. I adore you, Marsiana.’ Marsiana patiently waited, when the excitement of Christie little rested, and then asked: ‘Who has some other wishes?’ ‘I’ve got,’ Billy said clutched in each hand two IPhone. ‘Say.’ ‘I want a live dinosaur,’ Billy said. ‘Do not like that one which you then dug out.’ ‘Billy, do not talk nonsense,’ Christie chided him and frowned. ‘Where will Marsiana get alive dinosaur for you from?’ ‘She knows where,’ Billy replied cunningly.’ ‘None allowed bothering the animals without the reason,’ Marsiana said strictly. Billy wasn’t upset by her did not answer. He felt good and without the dinosaur. He's just said it. Marsiana suddenly slapped her hand over her forehead. ‘How could I forget!’ she exclaimed and looked at the street. Christie and Billy looked too. ‘What? What have you forgotten, Marsiana?’ Christie asked. ‘Yeah, what?’ Billy added. He was already on the Internet and flipping through some pictures. ‘Someone must come to me, just right now.’ Marsiana said. ‘Who? Guests?’ Christie asked. ‘It’s depends how you look at it. It’s the social service workers. They will ask me about my parents.’ ‘We better leave you,’ Christie said. ‘Not necessary. You can wait in the garden,’ Marsiana said. ‘And when they have to come?’ Christie asked. ‘When,’ Marsiana looked out into the street. ‘Yes, right now the just opening the gate,’ the girl's voice sounded quiet and mysterious. Billy would have sworn that Marsiana was up to something. In the yard of Mrs. Carter entered two women of about the same age. They look almost the same. ‘Hello children,’ they said politely. Marsiana nodded. Billy mumbled something. Only Christie greeted loudly and politely. ‘Here lives a girl named Marsiana,’ one woman asked, looking at the house of Mrs. Carter. Billy and Christie looked at the Marsiana. ‘Here,’ Marsiana said. ‘Are any adults at home?’ the second woman asked. ‘Yes,’ Marsiana said. ‘Please come in.’ ‘This is you Marsiana,’ guessed the first woman and held out her hand to the girl. Marsiana did not shake hands and went ahead of the visitors to the house of Mrs. Carter. Mrs. Carter met unexpected and uninvited guests politely but warily. ‘We're from the Department for Child Protection,’ introduced themselves both women. ‘We came here to see in what conditions lives your...’ she did not know exactly about the relationship of Mrs. Carter and Marsiana. ‘Marsiana is my niece. She’s the daughter of my older sister, Jennifer,’ Mrs. Carter came to help her. Women both smiled in their turn. ‘Thank you, Mrs. Carter. So here we came...’ ‘Someone reported you about my niece? Neighbors?’ Mrs. Carter asked directly. The women looked at each other furtively. ‘No, it's our job. Although to be honest, yes, your neighbors reported anonymously.’ ‘I thought so,’ Mrs. Carter pursed her lips and looked out the window, as if to determine which of the housewives was not too lazy to dial the number of social service. ‘We just wanted to know who the girl's parents, and the conditions in which she lives,’ as if justifying their visit, said on of the women. ‘Do you want to see the room of Marsiana?’ Am I right?’ Mrs. Carter asked without previous affability. ‘We would like that Marsiana will come with us and answer a few questions,’ the first woman said looking at the floor. ‘Really? What for?’ surprise of Mrs. Carter was no limit. ‘Girl has no documents. Maybe she is one of illegal immigrants,’ explained the second woman explained. ‘Such rules, Mrs. Carter.’ ‘I have told you already, Marsiana my sister's daughter. What else do you need…The paper with the seal?’ With her facial expression the second woman made it clear that it was a printing paper with a seal they were lack. Marsiana broke in the conversation. ‘I'll go with you. Do not worry, Aunt Audrey. I'll be OK. You'll see,’ Marsiana looked at the social workers. ‘When do you prefer I come with you just now or tomorrow morning? Though next morning I go to school,’ Marsiana informed solemnly. ‘To school,’ women looked at each other again, but now with surprise. ‘Yes to school,’ Mrs. Carter said. ‘There is nothing surprising in this. All children go to school.’ ‘Yes, yes,’ Marsiana nodded. ‘Want me to show you my books? Come to my room.’ Women politely declined the offer. ‘Well, as you wish,’ Marsiana paused, and then suddenly exclaimed. ‘I am so glad you have come, you just can not imagine. So glad that finally someone remembered me and wanted to take care of me. I'm so glad. So touched,’ Marsiana could not resist and rushed to embrace the women. Women helplessly watched at her, then at Mrs. Carter. Mrs. Carter, with whole her appearance gave them to understand that Marianna very friendly and emotional girl. Nothing can be helped with this. ‘Well, that’s all,’ Marsiana said. ‘Come to answer your questions. Can I take you in hands? People will think that we are relatives.’ Not waiting for the answer of shocked women Marsiana herself grabbed their hands and dragged them toward the door. ‘So far, Aunt Audrey,’ she cried. ‘I'll be back soon. Look after my flowers.’ When the women came to the threshold of the house, they saw that Marsiana wasn’t with them, and in their hands they hold on a bunch of ripe bananas. Not knowing what was happening, and what happened to the girl, they went back to the house of Mrs. Carter. It would be better they didn’t do that. When they entered the room in which they had just talked to Marsiana and her aunt, they caught an unusual sight. The floor of the room was flooded with some yellow luminous substance in the center of which was the head of Marsiana. She was smiling at them. ‘Sorry,’ Marsiana said. ‘Your visit so touched me. So I touched, that I could not resist of excitement and melted. I would go with you, but you see, in what turned my feet.’ Without saying a word, the frightened woman ran out of the house of Mrs. Carter. When Marsiana went into the garden to her friends from the social workers did not leave even a trace. Two bunches of bananas lied on the grass. Billy carefully was peeling one of it. ‘Marsiana what did you say that women?’ Billy asked. ‘They ran so fast as if them chased Tyrannosaurus.’ ‘Nothing special…only that their coming excited me very much.’ ‘I can’t believe you, perhaps scared them to death by something.’ ‘Billy, you have a good opinion of me, as I see. I wouldn’t dare to scare the workers of such a serious organization. And Aunt Audrey would not let me do it.’ Christie looked on wide-eyed at Marsiana. Marsiana was so surprising and unusual that Christie was thrilled by her girlfriend. ‘You're lovely, Marsiana,’ she said. ‘I love you.’ ‘I love you too.’ Marsiana has decided to change the subject. ‘Do you remember that tomorrow we’ll go to school?’ she asked. ‘Of course, we remember,’ Billy nodded. ‘I'll come for you tomorrow. Then we’ll go to Christie.’ ‘Excellent,’ Marsiana said with a satisfied tone and dreamily gazed into the distance, as if trying to see the unfamiliar to her school, and imagine how she will feel at school. ‘In school, probably very nice,’ she said. ‘It depends,’ Billy broke in. ‘Fine. You will like it,’ Christie wanted to support Marsiana. ‘Thank you, Christie. I knew you'd be my best friend,’ thanked her Marsiana. ‘Where are you going now? Marsiana asked. ‘We're actually come to you, but if you're busy, we’ll come in the morning,’ Billy answered. ‘Okay, I need to review my textbooks before school.’ Christie said. ‘What use look at it,’ Billy wondered, beginning to the next banana. Christie, he also suggested. But she refused. ‘Books like books. There are a lon of it in school! But if you want, look at. We, too, go get ready for school. Yes, Christie?’ ‘You are right. We’ll go, Marsiana. See you tomorrow,’ Christie said. ‘See you then,’ Marsiana answered. ‘Billy will not oversleep. I will wait for you.’ ‘Do not worry, I won’t oversleep,’ Billy promised. ‘I ...,’he hesitated. ‘Can I take bananas away with me? What use if it be scattered around any way.’ ‘Take it, of course,’ Marsiana allowed. After Christie and Billy left, Marsiana returned to her room and really started to sort out her books. But she was going to read nothing. She knew so well what was written in it.
