The Alien Consciousness 2-6
CHAPTER 6

Conversation with Olga Pavlovna sent thoughts of Colonel Nikolai Podgorny the officer of SBU in another direction. Mentally, he was wondering what the best channels to use to find out about Max. He’s got one man in the United States. It was a reliable man a foreign intelligence officer. More than once he rescued Nicholas in Iraq and Afghanistan. With him he decided to talk after the operation Clean City will be over.
According to informants in the SBU became aware of the existence of a transshipment base of the traders of illegal weapons located in the Kiev region. After successfully carrying out of investigative work, and then the operation to capture and neutralization of the gang band, in the hands of the officers who fight against terrorism, and which has successfully led for several years Colonel Podgorny, got all members of the criminal activity, together with the leader and mediator. The latter was especially valuable, as giving access to other links in the chain of illegal transportation and sale of military weapons.
Brand new, just from warehouse machine guns AK 47 and
AK 100, several containers with grenade launchers and explosives were vivid proof and testimony. Explosives turned out well, about twenty pounds. All of this dangerous cargo they just transported in a van at night, in the central office, located in Kiev. At the head of the column was moving a little minibus full of deadly cargo. Followed by maintaining a safe distance two cars accompany the group Alpha. Jeep of Colonel moved last. The colonel did not like to ride with a driver, preferring to personally sit behind the wheel.
Had took over a decision about his nephew, Colonel Podgorny began to dial a mobile number of commander of Special Forces Alpha who was in the second car moved from the head of the column. Nicholas had intended to inform him of his intention to absent himself for a while, thus, give him command of the movement of the column.
But he did not do it. Right on the leading car’s headlights, jumped out of the darkness some shadow. Creaked and squealed brakes. There was a thud. Human or animal, Podgorny could not see bounced a few feet forward and fell motionless on the road. The cars stopped moving. But nobody came out. All were waiting for the order. They were waiting for his, Podgorny order. It was possible that everything was planned, with the aim of seizing weapons. Colonel with a corner of his eye caught a glimpse of how the right, out of the darkness, flared and died a short flash of the red beam.
Then he saw the van with arms slowly at first, just wondering, a little rose into the air, tilted to the left side, and then a deafening explosion boomed. Another. More powerful. TNT exploded, carried in the car. All around lit up with a bright flash. Strong explosion touched a second car, and then followed another explosion. Third car was caught by a fire. One heard people’s shouting and orders. Doors of cars began to swing open. In flames people started to jump out of burning cars, extinguish each other.
But the explosions, the cause of which could not understand any one, continued to follow one after the other. Cars flew into the air, and then were heavily falling down with its debris on burning fighters. Night was dawned with a bright blazing fire. The ammunition was exploding. The spilled fuel with the deaf clapping was caught with a fire, drowning out the screams, moans and curses of wounded soldiers. In all directions, were scattering with a whizzing the cars’ fragments and torn, mangled human bodies. One or two pieces, with a thud, hit the windshield of the Jeep. The glass at once covered with the threatening cracks. The fragments of blown up cars by powerful explosions flew high in the air and after a while, like a hail started pouring back to the ground. Some clattered loudly on the roof of Colonel’s Jeep.
Podgorny reacted with a speed of a lightning. Slammed on the brakes. His Jeep like a great, nocturnal animal immediately stopped still on the spot. Nicholas opened the door and grabbing lying beside him AK, like a sack fell out of the car. He quickly crawled under the rear wheel. Nicholas feared that the next target will be his car.
Everything happened in a few seconds. He was sure the shots were made from a grenade launcher. Other weapons that could blow up two cars, he did not know.
Sprawled on the hot asphalt, Colonel, clinging to the machine gun, quickly assessed the situation. Realizing that, apparently, all or nearly all of his men were killed for sure, Colonel groaned and cursed, banged his fist on the asphalt. To survive in such a scorching heat, the chances were few. Got numbed, he for some time stared at the remains of burning cars, and spilled on the highway gasoline. Bright flames blazed, dragged into the night sky, obscuring with black, acrid smoke the distant stars. Mastered his feelings, Nicholas began to notice scattered on the road motionless bodies of his subordinates. Some were still burning, spreading around the sickening smell of burnt flesh and hair. Others lay motionless, giving him Nicholas hope that they or wounded or contused, but the main thing were alive.
In the brain of the colonel at that time there was only one question: “Who would dare to attack and kill my men?” He did not know the answer. But no doubt – he for sure will know it.
On one side, to the right on the sidelines, was stirring a shadow. Or maybe just a bird flew. Colonel reacted instantly, as in a war. Rolled onto his left side, put his feet into the asphalt and gave some gunfire in the direction of a suspicious movement. The smell of gunpowder, the machine returns during shots, gave him some confidence. There was no answer. After waiting in suspense for a while, he realized that it was over. No one else will shoot him any more. He rose to his feet, looked around. The cars kept burning. The bodies of his fallen dead comrades lay motionlessly. Colonel’s heart bled from powerlessness to change anything. It is late. It was all too late. The only thing he could do for his dead comrades, to find and severely punish those who were responsible for their murder.
Using his Jeep as a cover, in case if not all the ammunition exploded, Colonel, just checked how many bullets left in his AK. Then he also put out and reloaded his gun. It all what was happened seemed to him completely ridiculous. He even could not imagine the people who dared to attack and shoot the SBU’s officers. It could be both some terrorists and bombers. Or some crazy guy who for some reason got out of his mind. But what for? Revenge? But who? Who could take revenge on them? Although it was a rhetorical question. There were a lot of scammers who desirers to pay back him personally or his men. But how did they get to know that the column will follow exactly this track? Leak of information? No excluded. But in that case among them should be a spy. Not among his men but in the Central Headquarter. But who was it? Colonel Podgorny at that time did not know the answer to the questions of his own.
He contacted the Central Office and briefly explained the situation. At the other end of the wire a painful silence reigned. In the Central Office tried to fully comprehend the all tragedy of what happened on the highway. And it was not easy. Then, after a moment's hesitation followed a message that the emergency car, Special Forces unit of Alpha and experts have already went to the place of tragedy. Turned off the phone, the Colonel rushed to his car, grabbed a fire extinguisher and begun to put out the car and body of people, trying to ignore the heat and the smell of burning human flesh. Stock of fire extinguisher quickly spent. He only managed to extinguish the flames from only the one car. It became apparent that all his comrades were dead. No cries or groans or cries for help could not hear before his hearing. He could help none of them and could do nothing for them either. He was alone who survived there. Realizing this painful fact, Colonel Podgorny dropped the empty, useless already extinguisher, began carefully pull off the bodies of his friends away from the fire.
Having done all that what was in his power, Colonel Podgorny with drooping shoulders, slowly and wearily walked to the middle of the road. Stopped. Thoughts in his head works clear, but the pain and resentment from the sudden loss of so many friends at the same time was so strong that he could not concentrate. His gaze just slid to the burning cars, motionless bodies. But the most of all he was haunted by the annoyance that he made such a big mistake. Although he knew there was no one to blame for what happened.
In this tragic moment, when he mentally was saying goodbye to his dead friends before his hearing through the crackle and pops of fire came the sound of club music. He looked around. To the scene was approaching a random car. It was a very expensive car. Some cheerful, tipsy company returned to Kiev. From the cabin was heard laughter and squeals of girls. Having entered the fire-lit circle, the car slowed down, then stopped. From the front passenger’s window shown a hand with a mobile phone. Sitting in the car guy, his face could not be seen, filmed scene of the tragedy. He photographed his, Nicholas dead comrades!
Colonel was possessed by a cold, wild rage. Clutching in his hands AK, Nicholas calmly approached the car stopped right in front of the lens of the phone. The drunken guy barely lifted his face, smiled:
‘Hey cop or who you are, fucks off. You stop me from shooting. It’s an excellent video for Youtube. It will get a lot of views.’
‘It’s forbidden to shoot here. You better leave this place.’ Colonel Podgorny said calmly.
‘We can. We can all!’ Guy said impudently, leaning slightly more out of car’s window. ‘Do you know who I am? Do you know who am I kin to? One word and you’ll be fired.’ From the cabin of the car again was heard the laughter of girls. Nicholas’s view slid into the passenger compartment. In the back seat sat three brightly dressed young ladies. Maybe they were the prostitutes on call, or maybe just friends.
‘Gold Youth? Everything is permitted, above the law?’ Ominously, as if thinking about something said slowly, Colonel Podgorny.
‘Yeah. You are right. But now get off of our way dummy!’ Guy in the front seat twitched impatiently.
‘How you all have got me already, you and your rich dads and moms.’ Colonel Podgorny quietly, as if to himself hissed through clenched teeth.
Short, accurate blow with a rifle butt and the guy's face stained with blood.
‘This is for the insulting an officer during the performance of official duty.’ Colonel Podgorny said enunciating every word.
Guy’s mobile phone fell to the asphalt.
Colonel Podgorny stepped on it and with a great pleasure crushed.
‘But this is for the disrespect of the memory of the officers who were killed during the performance of their official duties.’ He explained, continuing to coin the words.
The company who was sitting inside the car, began loudly complaining, threaten with violence. The guy with a broken nose, crying and wiping the blood with tears on his cheeks, asked Erik to kill the brazen cop. Erik probably was at the same time the driver and a security guard. Seeing the blooded face of his master, he was taken aback for a moment, then reached out a hand to the inside pocket of his jacket.
‘Don’t even think. I’m faster.’ Colonel sharply took his machine gun slightly to the side and fired a short burst into the air. The roar of gunfire drowned the terrified squeals of girls. The company quickly began to sober. ‘Today I had a very difficult night. I lost a lot of friends dear to me. Please immediately leave this place. No need to feel you destiny.’ Colonel Podgorny aimed his machine gun on the driver. ‘Erik? Do you Erik?’
The blond guy, who instantly was sweating, blushing, shook his head obediently.
‘Erik, you have maximum ten seconds. I hope you understand me?’
Erik or whatever he was again obediently shook his head and, without saying a word, pressed on the gas. The car tore away, quickly began to recede.
Colonel Podgorny, something suddenly remembering, quickly stepped forward; remembered the last two digits of the car’s number. In the upcoming investigation the involuntary witnesses could come in handy. Perhaps someone who was inside the car saw something unusual while approaching the scene of tragedy. It will be necessary to interrogate them.
Ten minutes later drove the car from the Central Office and Colonel Podgorny instantly forgot the unpleasant incident. He instantly switched over himself on a work.
