12:22 Days on Mars |
Day 14
Jason got in touch.
"Where are you? What you are doing?" We all breathed a sigh of relief. "Jason? You?" Steven shouted, " they shot us down. Can you imagine? We are on Phobos. You can’t even imagine how glad we are that you got in touch. How did you manage? We are just looking for a walkie-talkie or something like that." "So they shot you down, bad. We only have one aircraft left. How did we find you? Transmitters are built into your spacesuits. It helped us to tracked you on Phobos." “Jason, take us away from here,” Kelly begged. "But what if you get knocked down too. What then?" Steven asked , "Then we all stuck on Phobos." “Calm down,” in Jason's voice sounded the condescending notes, “you have seen too much of Hollywood films.” Your spacesuits are autonomous aircraft. You can return to Mars on your own. Of course, you can't get back on Earth, but you can reach Mars." "What is it like? Steven was surprised, not believing his ears, "can we fly in our spacesuits? Like iron man?" “You can say so,” Jason agreed, “you just need to activate the gravitational engine with your voice, and you will return to us on Mars.” "But we will not burn in the atmosphere?" I asked. "No, you can control the speed of the landing. But before returning, I would advise examining Phobos. Find the installation from which you were shot down and see what is on Deimos. Of course, if you are very scared, you can immediately return to Mars," Jason added after a pause. Everything became clear to me. Jason thinks we are afraid. "We are not afraid. Rather confused. But now when you’ve got in touch, everything is in order. We will explore Phobos. If we find the installation that shot us down, what should we do? Take with you?" "I doubt that it is so compact. Shoot in detail on the video. We will examine here. Ok, I have to go. But I'm online. You can get in touch with me at any moment. Do not waste your time." "OK," Steven perked up, " let's try to find out what is happening here." We began to inspect the place where the wreckage of the ship fell. Jason's assurances that we can leave Phobos at any time and return to Mars have very encouraged us. "I found something!" Pail shouted ten minutes later. "And me too!" Kelly exclaimed after him. She did not cry anymore and even tried to smile. “What?” I asked Paul, going up to him. Yes, I want to clarify to all of you that it's very difficult to walk on Phobos in common sense. It’s easier to jump slowly. So, we jumped to each other. The feelings are very unusual and one can even say pleasant. "Underground passage. Look, ” Paul showed with his hand. A round hole with smooth edges was visible in the melted soil. It is good that none of us managed to get very close and did not look inside. A white ray stretched into the silent black sky of Phobos, and after a few seconds it went out. Some time passed and on the surface of Phobos melted fragments of an unknown substance slowly fell down. “That's it. Laser,” Steven exclaimed, “The same laser which again shot something down. It’s good that it didn’t hit us again. Do not come close!" He might not have said that. No one was going to come close. We were glad that we did not fall under the beam. Otherwise, the spacesuits would not have helped us. "What do we do?" Paul asked. Nobody had time to answer him. A few meters away an alien appeared. From surprise, I sat down on the ground. The rest froze in place. Seconds passed. We stood silently and looked in shock at the alien. He looked like a man, but was not a man. The alien spoke.
